Remove Bumper Guards from Pool Cleaner

Well, we've completely taken apart the bottom truck assembly of our aboveground automatic pool cleaner, and now it's time to get up to where the real action happens. And this is where we can really start to really identify if there's any problems with the drive train, and what has to be replaced, and why. To get in there, it's pretty straightforward. All we're going to do is remove six screws right here on the bumper guard assembly, okay? Now I've already removed these four just for time, and I'm simply going to take my drill, and these are long ones, so the drill really really saves your back, or your wrist rather, okay? Pop them out; you want to try to remove the screws themselves, as opposed to tipping it over, because once you free this bumper guard assembly, there's a lot of things inside that have also been completely freed. So we just sort of hold it this way, and gently take it off. Now, a couple of things about the bumper guard you should be aware of is, is that this is an important piece to guiding the cleaner, all right. If the cleaner gets stuck, let's say between a ladder, or jammed anywhere, it can still completely spin to an area where it can just take off the other direction. Most commonly what will happen is these will break, or even more so, they'll jump their tracks, all right? They'll work a little bit, but drag. All you have to do is reset them back into the grooves. Each one of them is a is a double-sided groove, pop in there, make sure it moves smoothly. If you do have to replace them, it's simply snap off the old ones; pop them in, they're one way pop rivets, and make sure that the weights are in good repair; that they haven't been reduced, or eaten away. These are lead weights, so they're pretty robust, but if you shock your pool a lot with your cleaner in there, which you shouldn't do, these will start to deteriorate. All right, now that we've got this aside, we can get some serious things inside. We'll take a look at the turbine next.
