Remove Pods from Pool Cleaner

Now that we've got the lower assembly taken care of, we can really get inside, look around, and see what's working well, and see what might need to be replaced. You can see right here, several different systems inside the cleaner, this one being the A frame, comprising of four bearings, the pods, and then of course, our old friends, the wings, the wear parts, and doors. Now what we want to do here, is we're going to remove the pods. One way to check to see if you have to do a pod replacement, is by holding the A frame, and moving it. This one is solid in noose. This is how it's supposed be. They move completely together. If the pod has worn on the inside while holding this, this will move, and since during normal operation these things only make very small movements, up and down. If it's worn, and they're not working dynamically, then the cleaners going to go in circles, or it's going to go to do something you don't want it to do. The other thing, is looking to see if the A frame bearings are broken. Now these do not use bearing shields like some, so you will see the bearings inside of it, and you will see them flip-flopping around. If the whole shield is gone, and the bearings are in the pool, well, it's time to replace the A frame. Also, keep in mind that the cleaner does not have any power inside of it, meaning it's the pressure from your pump, that's driving it, so unlike your car, when your engine breaks down, the car just stops. In this case, the engine is perfectly good, and it just keeps driving it and driving it, and driving it, until it wears completely straight through, so we're going to show you here in this clip, is how to take these little pods off. It's pretty straight forward. All you've got to do is take your flat head screwdriver here, pop the pod pin out, and using your drill gun, if you use this with the little tips on it, this becomes a quarter inch nut driver. That's exactly what you need. It's got a little bit of reach. We can get right in there. Holding the A frame, it comes right out. Now the other thing is, is that getting it off can be a little bit difficult, so what I like to do is use a flathead, sometimes a little bit bigger if it's persnickety, and sort of get it in there, and just rocker it back and forth, using it as a wedge, and she'll come right off. Now all you have to do, is repeat that procedure on the other side. Plug, screw, persnickety, wiggle, and you're good to go.
