How to Make Pop-Up Origami Swans

Hi, I'm Karen for Expert Village. Now I'm going to show you how to make some beautiful golden swans, or birds, whatever you want them to be. They fold up nice and flat to be sent through the mail so this is a really nice gift to send. To open them up, you need to fold them off like this. And while holding the bottom, pull up the neck section and just pinch it a bit and then pull up the head section and just pinch it a bit. And it sits nicely there. You do the same thing; I have the exact same thing in a smaller version. You just pull up on the neck and pinch, and pull up on the neck and pinch. They look like a little mother and child swan. So, let me show you how to do it. All you need is some squares of paper. It's nice to have a double-sided paper and you get a little bit of variation on the wings of the bird. You can do any size square that you want. It will have an effect on how big the bird is. You can even do...this is a six inch square and this is a four inch square. So, this here is the six inch swan and this is the four inch swan. You can make them bigger or smaller. You can do a two inch swan, also, that would be very small. OK, so the first thing that we want to do, is take your paper...and I'm going to fold it on the diagonal with our right side up. Just smash the corner and fold that corner to corner like that and open it up. Then you're going to just fold one tip of it down about 1/2" and make sure that the crease in the middle here follows the crease that you have there. Next, we're going to fold the sides in. So, you pick up the sides and you fold right to the middle crease, like so, and crease that down. Repeat that on the other side. I'm going to fold it like this, right to the middle crease. So, you have what looks like that.
