Hi, I'm Karen, for Expert Village. Now I'll show you how to make kootie catchers, fortune tellers, and puppets out of this one easy fold. A kootie catcher is a little thing that can be folded flat and sent through the mail. You just put your fingers in underneath, like this, and you see it's empty inside, and then you ask the child to look inside. What's in there? He says, nothing; you say wait a minute and you go boop, boop, boop, and look we caught some kooties. The fortuneteller is a favorite toy for children. You set it up with numbers and colors, and you ask them to pick a color, b l...u...e.., and then pick a number, 1..2.., and then pick another number, let's look at six, and it tells you to either do an activity, jump on your foot ten times, or we have things like you will live a long life, or you will be famous. This is fun thing for a little bit older children. You can also use this same shape to make a puppet, and that's fun for small children, too. It can be folded flat and put in the mail. What we'll need for this paper craft is any sheet of paper; eight and a half by eleven is what I'm going to be using, but you can use any square sheet of paper. We're going to be making this one square. You'll also need a variety of pens and things to color with, and a pair of scissors if your paper is not square. We'll start by making out 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper into a square, and the easiest way to do that is to fold down the corner all the way to the side, and make sure that it's folded exactly on the corner here. Make it very even and crease there. You can either fold the paper up to this line, or just take a light pencil and draw along the edge of that paper, open it up, and cut along the line. If you have a paper cutter you can simply cut the paper to 8 1/2 inch square, but if you don't have a paper cutter this will make you a nice even square. When you're doing paper folding you really want to have a nice even square.
