How to Do Forward Stretching in Hatha Yoga

MARCEL LEIGH: All right. Coming back to our center, always starting from the center. So here we go. Squeeze abs in and up, shoulders up, back and down back, close your eyes, focus and breathe. Nice deep yoga breathe, up and down. All right. Now for your favorite, forward bends. I'm going to show you some moves how you can accelerate your movements and your forward bends. So this is what we're going to start with. I want you all to bring your knees up. Okay? Bring your toes up, reach, see if you can reach for your toes. Good. All right, you reached. That's great. Now, the fun part is don't let go no matter what you do. All right? Don't let go because all we're going to do is walk our feet out just a little bit, a little bit, a little bit, a little bit, all right? Now, we're going to walk around a little more and then slide, slide, slide, slide, don't let go, don't let go, don't let go. Good. That is a great stretch. All right. Feel it, relax, breathe. All right. Now, I want to show you from the spine this position. So we're going to start again, all right? And I'm going to face across this way doing the same thing. Now, I want you to focus on my spine this time. Starting here, walking my feet, out, out, out, out, out. Now, watch what happens. It's rounded now. We're going to straighten the feet. We're going to lift the spine up. Now, I want you to get to know the difference of round and lift. Okay? This is round, chin to the chest, and this is lift. Okay, one more time. This is round and this is lift. Now, I may say arch the spine, okay? All right. So you're going to arch the spine and focus ahead and breathe.
