Choosing Treats for Chinchillas

This is Lauren on behalf of Expert Village, and we are going to talk about feeding your chinchilla - Part 2. In addition to their food, a lot of people like to try to give them treats. You have to be extremely cautious when you, when it comes to this. There are so many foods out there that are not actually good for chinchillas. It's not like a guinea pig or a rabbit. They can't eat fresh fruits and vegetables. A lot of the dried fruits have added sugars to them, which can either cause problems or shouldn't be given to them at all. If you do decide though that you want to give your chinchilla a treat, I recommend giving them just one a day. And that can be something such as a single Cheerio, a plain one. They can have half a piece of shredded wheat, they can have one raisin. And other than that, I try to tell people to steer away from anything else, especially the packaged treats that are in the pet stores. You want to keep it pretty pure and plain.
