My name is Julia Morgan and my clothing line is Frocky Jack Morgan. On behalf of Expert Village, this is a tutorial on recycling and deconstructing old clothes. So in this clip we’re going to actually embellish this T-shirt with this little piece that we had already chosen. First of all we need to thread a needle. So you’re going to pull some thread out of your spool and cut it off. It can be any length you choose really, I guess at least 3 feet or so. Put the thread through the eye of the needle, which can often be easier said that done. And I usually double it for strength and so you have both ends of the thread at one end, and I wrap it around my finger and then just roll it between your fingers and pull it taut, and that can kind of tie a knot at the end for you. Now you start sewing. I like to put my hand in between the two pieces of garment so that I don’t stitch them together, and put the thread through both pieces. I’m not precise by any means, I’m kind of artistic in that way I guess, maybe that will be my excuse. I don’t do exact stitching or precise lengths or anything, because a lot of the time I end up covering the stitching I initially do with bead work or with trims or ribbon or something like that. I usually do this instead of a machine because machines can buckle stretchy fabric like this and quite frankly I get tired of being chained to a machine. I like being able to watch a movie or listen to music without a machine rattling in the background. So I’m just about to the end of stitching this patch onto this T-shirt, and I need to consider how I’m going to knot my thread. So I’m going to put the needle in and turn the garment inside out so that my knot will be hidden. And I’m going to loop the thread so that I have a loop like this, and pull it pretty small, and I’m going to stick the needle through the loop, and that will tie a knot for me. And I will do that a couple of times just to make sure that it’s secure. So here’s the loop again, and I put my needle through the loop and pull it taut, and that tied my knot! And then I can just cut the thread loose. So here I have my patch sewn onto my T-shirt and now I’m ready to add some other embellishments.
