Tips for Recycling a Wedding Dress

My name is Julia Barbee, my clothing line is Frocky Jack Morgan. On behalf of Expert Village this is a tutorial on recycling and deconstructing old clothes. So we are talking about deconstruction and how to find embellishments. Sometimes I look for really big garments that are beaded like this skirt and shirt that match. As they are I find them terrible. But if I look at them closely I might really like this grouping of flowers. So I am going to take my scissors and cut around these flowers and I might even want an individual one but for now I am going to cut these three out. And I'm not super careful about if I lose a little sequence that's okay. So now I have something that I find a little more beautiful than this giant jumble of sequence and I can embellish something with that. You might like another part of the garment like the edge of this sleeve. I'm just gonna slide my scissors in there and cut around the edge. I can cut it apart or add it as is to the sleeve of another garment. It's already the right size and diameter to sew to something else.
