Caring for Young Trees in Winter & Cold Weather

Hi, I'm John Guion from Bell Nursery for Expert Village. We are going to help you prepare your garden for Winter today. Now we are getting your young trees ready for the Winter months. At this time of the year, you want to remove what I call sucklimbs. They are the limbs down below the main fork of the tree limbs. You remove all those with your pruners so that the energy flows all the way up to the main part of the tree so that you don't have to worry about the lower limbs trying to survive the Winter months. It might be unsightly but within two to three years, the tree will grow right over those stumps, limbs and you won't even know they are there. So there is no need to have all those limbs survive through the Winter just to prune them off in the Spring, so you want to get rid of them now to make it better for next Spring.
