TRES TEW: Hi, I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor here at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts. I'm going to be teaching you about how to use open hands to defend yourself against the knife and this'll be on behalf of Expert Village. We're going to talk a little bit about what to do when someone has a knife at your throat. Now keep in mind, the blade is in contact with your throat. So if you push it this way, you're pretty much killing yourself. If you push it that way, you're probably not going to be doing as much damage but it's still going to probably nick you a little bit, maybe cut your ear a little bit. So what you want to do, you want to take your left hand, push out and strike up under the chin or strike into the eyes. And from here, this hand is still grabbing on so we're going to get rid of that and set it into an armbar right here and now we're going to set the knife to their throat. They're probably going to drop it because they don't want to cut their own throat. So now you've got them in control. You just shove them off and pick up their knife. So we're going to go with that one more time. They've got their knife to your throat, pushing it out in the way. If it's going this way, now you want to do the exact same thing. From here you're just going to take and push that arm. But from this side, just make sure that's going away from your neck. You're pushing, striking, wrapping up to the armbar and then they're probably going to drop the knife once they realize it's at their throat. And that's how to defend yourself against someone who has a knife to your throat.
