Feeding a Russian Tortoise

Welcome back to Regal Reptiles. Now we have some hungry tortoises and we're going to mix them up some food. The tortoises at the pet store you can buy dry diet. If you absolutely need to if you can't get to the grocery store, some of the tortoises will eat that dry diet. But you might now have a lot of success what we like to do we like to give them fresh vegetables. What we have here is some collard greens. We just ripe it up the tortoises, they have a beak and they will do a good job. We have a piece of pumpkin and some pumpkin seeds, we are going to give those to our tortoises. What we're going to do is we're going to put a little bit of vitamins, a little of supplement right on top of this food. In the summer, you can actually let your tortoises graze. You just have to be careful that you don't get too hot cause when the sun coming down, they can't find shade; they could get too hot. We are going to it right in here. It's on a plate. In time you can put the food right on the bedding; they won't eat the bedding. We are going to see if they are hungry. We like to mix up their diet we give them kale one day, we give them collard greens the next day, dandelions if you give them a little bit of strawberries or blueberries or fruits that is okay. You don't want to give them a lot of that cause it can kind of give them the runs. They do better with dark leafy greens.
