How to Maintain a Yard Edger's Spark Plugs

Hi! My name is Matthew Christian from Tampa, Florida and on behalf of Expert Village, I would like to talk to you about the proper use and maintenance of a yard edger. Another area to become familiar with on your gas powered yard tool is the spark plug. Since most gas powered yard tools are two cycled or two stroke engines, the spark plugs tend to foul out rather soon as opposed to your typical spark plug found on your lawnmower or car engine. It may become necessary to replace the spark plug from time to time. One good place to check would be the spark plug to see if it is fouled. To do so, we simply remove the spark plug boot. This is what carries the electricity to the spark plug that makes the spark. But we will remove this boot and then with an appropriate socket wrench that would fit the spark plug, we simply slide it down over the spark plug and unscrew the spark plug. When replacing the spark plug, it is imperative that you use the same like and kind of spark plug. Not all spark plugs are created equal. Make sure you are using the same one or one that is recommended by the manufacturer. Also another important area of importance to know is when you screw the spark plug back in, you do want to screw it back in snuggle but do not over tighten the spark plug. You are screwing it into a cast aluminum cylinder head. Over tightening could possible break the cylinder head. So go ahead and screw it down snuggly but not too tight. Once you have the spark plug back in, go ahead and replace the rubber book. When you press down you will kind of pop into position and will want to get that popping sound and we are good to go.
