Basic Car Detailing Equipment & Tips
Hi! I am Bob Osborne with Expert Village. Okay, when you are doing detailing, there are two different ways you can do it. You can do it in a fix based operation or you can do it mobile. I feel that the mobile is the best way to go not only as you overhead much lower, but for me it allows me to get out of the shop, drive around, go from place to place and frankly just lot a more fun to be mobile than it is at a fix base. So if you are going to do mobile detailing, there are few things that you are going to need. The minimum amount of equipment in my opinion is starting with your vacuum cleaner; shop vac is more than adequate. I would recommend something with at least 5 horsepower to make them all the way up to 6.5. The stronger the horsepower the more draw you have especially when it comes to shampooing carpet, the stronger draw comes in really handy. Then you are going to need an air compressor, a small two or three gallon air compressor that draws 15 amps, which is the best thing to have. You can use it at any location without worrying about blowing a fuse. Then you are going to need some basic stuff like buckets, spray bottles, different brushes, sponges and wash mitts. I have a tank that comes in and out of my pickup truck that runs off of 12 volt system; ladders of course and all the products that you use. I personally recommend McGuire products. I have been using them for years; they are very consistent, very high quality. Lot of my customers appreciate that I use very high quality products. Most of your equipment and one of the most important things in terms of detailing in the final result and getting really high quality is water. Most areas of United States have less than perfect water for detailing an automobile. It’s a system that just occupies a very small amount of space. It requires a couple of hoses and needs to be replenished about every 5000-10000 gallons depending on the water quality that is going in but what comes out is near distilled quality water. What this does it allows you to do the detail without worrying about spots collecting on the car, so especially if you are doing it mobile and outside in direct sunlight even on hot days, you don’t have to worry about spots on the paint and/or the glass with the ionized water as long as the vehicle is rinsed properly once you are done washing it. You can get a deionizer system from most water conditioning companies in your area.
