Removing Odor from your Car Detailing Tips
Hi! I am Bob Osborne with Expert Village and in this segment we are going to be dealing with odor control. Most odors are caused from mold or mildew. A lot of times you will get spillage inside a car; milk, soda, juice and things like that. If it doesn’t dry out properly, you can sometimes get molds or mildew that creates an odor and sometimes water damage from car being flooded or just a large amount of water being spilled and not dried out properly can cause some serious odor problems. The more serious odor problems are addressed by removing the carpet either drying out and replacing the padding or just simply drying out the padding can be effective. Once the carpet and/or pad has been mildewed, my experience is that the odor will never go away a 100%. There are quite a few products out there that you can use. Antibacterial sprays that kills the source of the odor, kill the mold or the mildew, but again from my experience almost there is always a little trace of the odor left after use of these chemicals. So in severely water damaged vehicles the only way to completely eliminate the odor is to remove the carpet and replace it. In the more minor odor control problems, we have antibacterial odor control sprays. Once you clean the carpet thoroughly, shampoo the carpet thoroughly using as little moisture as possible and after that the carpets has been allowed to dry a100% and these products can be sprayed and again left to dry will remove some of the more minor odor problems. When you are spraying the odor control product in the car, make sure you spray it lightly and uniformly and stay away from the plastic component directly. If you do get some of the product on plastic, wipe it off immediately because a lot of these products will stain. Some odor problems that actually emanate from the vent system. That is something that needs to be addressed by professionals and most of your auto mechanics now have antibacterial solutions that can be sprayed into the ventilation system with special tool and that is something that can be done at your mechanic shop.
