Not to pick on Joseph, but there are drywall saws (jab saws) that can do this much faster. The wall plate would cover the edge of the hole... provided that the hole is smaller than the wall plate.

How to Cut Around an Electrical Outlet in Drywall: Part 3

A lot of times you got to change your blades when your razing right threw. So don't be scarred to change them cause they do get dual. If you cut the back of your paper and the paper starts coming with your knife, you know its time to change your blade. I want to say also don't cut your self.
