How to Fix a Showerhead

If your shower head is clogged and it’s not spraying properly and shooting in all different directions, it’s very easy to replace or fix it. What you’ll need to do is get a pair of channel lock pliers and a cloth because you want to protect your hardware. And simply turn counter clockwise and remove it.

Your shower head may not be like mine - it may be a standard shower head - either way it’s the same principle. It simply screws off of the stem. And once you’ve removed it, you can take a pin and poke out the holes that aren’t working, but really, what you should do is soak it overnight in some calcium and lime remover, which will dissolve the deposits which are causing it to spray in different directions. And let that sit overnight.

And then, when you’re finished, you simply wrap the threads with Teflon tape. This will prevent it from spraying around the connection. And you’ll want to wrap it two or three turns around in a clockwise direction which is the direction that you’ll be screwing the new head, or the old head, back on with. And you’re done.
