Applying Sauce to BBQ Beef Ribs: Part 1

On behalf of Expert Village I'm Terry and today we are going to talk about preparing barbecue ribs for cooking. Alright my temperature has reached 300 degrees. It is smoking really good so I'm going to flip them over. I'm going to flip them over, I have a little bit tin foil on there. Look how they come apart I can just separate those. Now that I have flipped them over and cooking them on this side I can go ahead and apply my barbecue sauce. The basting brush I have is a the high temp rubber brush so you don't get the brush bristles or the hair bristles in your meat. It is dish washer safe you can find it at any local discount store. You want to baste this meat a thin coat not a thick coat cause it will just drip off and burn and start a fire. So a thin coat is applied for the first coat. This barbecue sauce I have put honey and brown sugar and it will caramelize and be basically like a glue and hold the meat together. I have cooked the meat as far as I could without it falling right off the bone. I turned that down just to a high grill. Let that come back up to 300 degrees and I will flip it over and do the same process again. I will do that 2-3 times. If it goes to getting black spots on it like burn spots that is your barbecue sauce burning so you want to stop then and either reduce the heat and move them over to the warmer side. You can continue to baste but just give time enough for the barbecue sauce to get kind of satisfied.
