Tips on Stealing in Texas Holdem Poker

Let's talk about stealing in a tournament. Steals are very prominent in tournament play. Now, over time, over the last few years, the steal has become less of a play that works basically. What you're trying to do when you steal, or you re-steal, or even re re steal, is you are trying to create a situation where you put enough chips in the pot that your opponents say I can't, I gotta fold. Ok, well, let's look at a steal. A steal occurs and used to work when the table folded around to the button, and the button no matter their cards, said raise and they put down three or four times the big blind. A re-steal in the next position said you know what, I raise. And they make the call and they put out another six, four to six big blinds. And then finally the re re-steal, which is becoming the thing now is when, let's say the person in the big blind who has way more chips than these other guys, and knows how to play fold equity type poker looks down and has eight seven. And says, you know what, I can gamble with that hand. I am all in. Well, sometimes, they're gonna get these two guys to fold. Because the guy on the button, well he raised with junk, he raised with jack six, I don't care if it is suited. And this guy in the small blind, might be a kind of weak player, saying you know what I'm gonna hold out and play to just try to make the money. I wanna be able to tell everybody hey I cashed in that big tournament. They're not thinking about winning. And they might lay down that king jack and even if they don't, even if they call, an eight seven suited is gonna suck out against a king jack one third of the time. So, you still have a good chance of winning and who knows maybe they will fold to your pressure. That is how you re re-steal.
