Hello, I'm Jennifer Cail and on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to show you how to set your table for Thanksgiving Day dinner. Now that we have our plate setup and our glasses and our teacup next comes the flatware. Now many people get very, very nervous when it comes to flatware and wondering which fork should I use and am I using the proper spoon for this. But it is really quite simpler than most people think it is, now the first and easiest piece of flatware is the knife. You're going to have to have a knife in order to cut into that delicious turkey so this one goes to the right closest to the plate. The easiest way to remember the positioning of the silverware is that you use things from the outside in. So for forks and spoons whatever you are going to use first is going to be on the outside, so next it's the soup spoon. If you are going to have a soup course you want to put this to the right of the knife just right here so it is easier to grab when the person is going to have their soup course, which will presumably be one of the earlier courses. Next, is your dinner fork also absolutely necessary everyone is going to have a dinner fork, you need it to eat all of your food. So this is going to go to the left of the plate closest in, if you're having a salad course then you're also going to need a salad fork. This one is usually a slightly smaller version than the dinner fork but if you are unsure just remember it is going to be on the outside to the left of the dinner fork because you are going to have your salad before your dinner. Now we can start getting into more interesting placements of the flatware depending on how fancy your meal is. If you're going to have a dessert course afterwards then you can put your dessert fork and spoon up at the top of the plate. You will need to have a teaspoon for your coffee or tea after dinner, you put that to where the handle is to the right because you are going to be grabbing it with your right hand. You will also have a dessert fork and you are going to put this underneath the spoon so that it is facing to the right and the handle is to the left. Remember that the handle goes to the left because the rest of your forks are on the left side. Last but not least if you want to be super fancy then you can also have an individual butter knife at each plate and you are going to have it this laid across the top of the bread and butter plate, so that everybody has there own knife when getting their butter.
