More About Reading Labels on Nutritional Supplements

Hi I’m Lisa Jones on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment we are going to be talking about reading supplement labels. Please feel free to visit my website at www.healthwisewithlisajones.com. When reading supplement labels, you have to be very careful because a lot of times they put over the upper tolerable limit which we were talking about earlier in the supplement so you do not need to take all that is in there because it could be potentially toxic. So you want to make sure that you are doing is looking at the supplement and this one that we are using as an example is called "Tanalian Sea LA" and the label says it is a patented formula may help you reduce body fat and increase muscle retention and it is clinically tested. It talks about how many calories are in it and you are supposed to take one soft gel with each meal. It also has the ingredients. It talks about how it has been studied and it is derived from sunflower oil and you are supposed to store it in a cool dry place and keep out of reach of children. So you want to make sure that and the expiration date is 12/2007 so we are good with that. You want to make sure that you are only taking one of these soft gels and I would probably only recommend. This is based on a 2,000 calorie diet so make sure that you are following and looking at the supplement labels and seeing what it offers. And also in addition to your diet, depending on how many supplements you take a day you may be going over in some things. For example, this is a multivitamin. It has all the supplement facts on it and it has 2,000 IU’s and it has 40% daily value. We talked about daily value already but you want to make sure that you are not going over your daily value. So if you consider this and you are taking all these other supplements you are most likely going over your vitamin A intake. So you want to make sure that you are taking maybe just one of the supplements instead of a bunch of them at a time.
