Reading Labels on Nutritional Supplements

Hi I’m Lisa Jones on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment we will be talking about supplemental labels. Please feel free to visit my website at www.healthwisewithlisajones.com. Supplement labels have a variety of terms that you may be familiar with. The following terms are Federal Drug Administration approved. They are to be used on supplement labels. The first one to become familiar with is called the RDI, or the Recommended Daily Intake. These are the newest estimates of safe and adequate nutrient intakes. The second one to be familiar with is called the RDA. That stands for the Recommended Daily Allowance. These are previous recommended levels of vitamins or minerals intakes to prevent disease. The third one to become familiar with is called the UL or the Upper Tolerable Intake Level. The National Academy of Science has for the first time ever set an upper level for some vitamins and minerals.
