Hi this is Larissa Lam and on behalf of Expert Village, we're going to continue our singing lessons, and today we're going to be talking about using your breath support. I've emphasized many times, if you've been watching, and paying attention, about the use of your diaphragm in breathing in proper singing. Well, we're going to do an exercise called the creak. Now, again this is going to sound a little bit strange and your neighbors, if they're listening, might think you know, you've got some squeaky doors. But trust me; this is going to help you in your breathing exercises and warming up the vocal cords as well. So, one great way to help measure whether or not you're using your diaphragm is putting your hands to your side. You could put it in front as well but sometimes it's a little bit more natural to put it to your sides. And you can do this exercise called the creak. Now, doors creak so you're going to kind of imitate a creaking door sound. So you kind of go... E, Ah, so you're alternating E and Ah. Now, it's going to sound ugly-- don't worry about how pretty it sounds it's all about using the breath properly so inhale with your diaphragm. E, Ah. E, Ah. So inhale before the E, with your diaphragm, E, Ah. For a variation you can hold the E as long as you can and just slowly exhale. E, Ah. Now, that's to help build up your stamina. Now like I said before in my videos, make sure you don't get too lightheaded and fall over, make sure you take a break and overdo it. Make sure you just have enough breath to exhale naturally. And then you can start the process over. If you practice this every day, over a period of time you're going to be able to hold your breath longer and longer.
Hope this works. We breathe between each eeees and ahhhhs, right?
