How to Care for a Henna Tattoo: Free Tips for Applying Henna Tattoos & Body Art

After you have applied the henna paste to a person you need to let them know that they need to wait to let the henna to dry. After the henna is dry it is important to apply some type of fixative to it. This will prevent it from flaking off as it dries. You can use a traditional fixative such as sugar and lemon juice. Mix it together until it’s a liquid and just spray it on. Other things that work as fixatives are gel, hairspray and also medical paper tape. Once the henna is dry you simply apply these things over it. The longer the paste stays on your hand the better and the deeper your stain will be. If you want a stain that will disappear very quickly then remove the paste very early. However you are taking the chance that you may not end up with a stain at all. If you allow the paste to sit on your hand for at least six hours then your likelihood of getting a dark, very beautiful and rich stain is very high. It’s not very unheard of for a henna stain to be as dark as blackberry or espresso. However, the tone and the color that it takes are completely dependent upon your own unique body chemistry. Some stains will be bright pumpkin orange and others will be deeper. After initially removing the paste from your hand you will have an orange stain. Wait twenty four to forty eight hours and it will deepen as it begins to oxidize. I’ve woken up in the morning with a dark dark espresso stain after going to bed with a stain that was about pumpkin orange. I’ve also put henna on myself that seems like it didn’t stain at all only to be amazed when I woke up the next morning with the beautiful stain I ended up with.
