A very traditional place to have henna done is on the hands. Frequently you will see henna being done on a bride’s hands or anyone else in any country that you can think of. Henna that is done on the hands will frequently be far darker on the palm than it is on the back of the hand. Some people prefer the back of the hand because they feel as though it will be shown a lot more. I guess it’s more important for a person to decide whether they want a dark stain or one that is more visible. Or both. There is nothing that says that you can’t have both your palm and the outside of your hand hennaed. Some common designs for henna on the hands are such as these. As you can see there is a matching foot design but it’s not necessary to use both. This design is much more simple than you might think fro first looking at it. It’s simply a v shape in the middle; a flower with the middle’s darkened in and outlined some small vines and leaves. Those elements by themselves are not difficult to obtain. It’s simply by looking at the whole that sometimes we feel overwhelmed. Some other henna designs for the hand can be incorporating other elements. You can take something like these north African symbols and put them on a palm. You don’t have to find henna designs always in a book of henna designs. Look around you, look at fabric, look at the sky, and look at things in the home or your backyard. I frequently find beautiful henna designs on skirts or on drapers. Any kind design you see and like can be turned into a design you can use with henna. These designs are not necessarily henna designs however they can be done. Something kind of popular right now are astrological symbols and they can be placed in the palm of the hand and surround them with some accents and they make lovely henna hand designs. These because of their rounded type nature make great designs for a palm. And they are also relatively easy to do; they dry quickly, all of them, except for this one because it’s completely darkened in. So they dry quickly and you don’t have to worry about them taking a long time to dry. Conji, which is another element that is frequently used in modern henna, can also be used on the palm. Any henna that you do on the backside of the hand is frequently not going to be as dark as the henna on the palm. Therefore you want to make sure that the henna you do on the backside of the hand is not as delicate or as finely crafted as the ones that you do on the palm of your hand. Big bold geometric designs work well on the back of the hand. As well as elements that use very dark lines so you can see them. Remember that the skin on the back of the hand is a lot thinner than the skin on the palm. If you keep this in mind when designing your henna tattoo it will last a lot longer and you will get far more enjoyment out of it.
