CASEY CORMIER: So staccato notes are written with dots underneath, as you can see here, or if the note is up here and the stem is down it will be above the head. Down here, this is how they would be written. So here say we are in 3/4 time. It is staccato, staccato, regular; legato but we will call just regular; staccato, staccato, legato. So that would sound like if we have one, two, three, A-A-A, C-C-C, A-A-A, C-C-C, we wouldn't take the pressure off that C when we played it, we left the A ring until we needed to play the C but with the staccato notes we mute them right after [PLAYS STACCATO]. So use staccato to punctuate your play. Here is an example: We played something bass line G-A-G-F sharp-E-A-A-G-G sharp-A just legato, it is nice, but by making a staccato add an extra touch to it [PLAYS STACCATO BASS LINE]. So try playing something like that, try playing just some staccato lines to make your groove sound a little more fresh.
