Something that is very popular and a very traditional use as well is bridal henna. I’m sure we’ve all seen an Indian bride in some movie or media thing where she has her hands intricately hennaed. This is frequently done in India. Some examples of bridal henna would be something like this. You can see that it contains a lot of fill, it’s very intricate and it’s very beautiful. Brides also traditionally get their feet hennaed as well. These are just two examples of bridal henna on someone’s foot. They take a long time to do because there is so much fill work. It is not unheard of for a bride to spend four hours and several hundred dollars in getting her henna done. Of course the more wealthy the bride the better her henna will look because she’ll be able to afford a more expensive henna artist. Here’s another example of foot bridal henna that doesn’t have quite as much fill but is still beautiful. In modern times some Indian brides are opting to have less fill in their bridal henna for a more modern look. I personally still prefer the more traditional look. This would also be considered bridal henna. The henna artist as she does bridal henna she speaks to the bride to find out what she’s looking for. Some brides want something that is very very floral other brides want something that is not so much so. Some want their hands completely filled. Bridal henna is frequently done on the palms of the hands as well as the back of the hands and not just the hands but all the way up to the middle of the arm. And likewise for the feet. From the top of the foot all the ay up to the middle of their calf. It’s very beautiful and lasts a very long time. There’s a saying that the darker your bridal henna the more your mother-in-law loves you. I think it’s something the henna artists invented to try and convince the brides to keep the henna on as long as possible.
