Top Hat Chickens

This is a top hat Chicken. This is a top hat Hen, I should specifically say. You can tell a top hat because they always got some kind of a crest. There are many different breeds of top hat's and they were bred mostly because they are so beautifully. Some of them just have small crest and some have large crest. The rooster of a top hat will usually have a larger pointed crest rather than this, than a puffed ball sort of crest as she does. Top hats are exhibition birds mostly. Obviously all chickens will lay eggs or we wouldn't have more chickens. But they are not kept for their ability to lay eggs nor for their production of a meat bird to eat. They are kept mostly as you can tell, they are just so handsome and there are many different kinds. Most of them are old varieties developed 300, 400, 500 years ago in places like Turkey, Poland and other places in the Middle East. And they are just stunning birds. You will see them if you go to any county fair or chicken exhibition. Top hats will always be among the big prize winners.
