How to Adjust Front Derailleur on a Bicycle

Hi! This is Mike on behalf of expertvillage.com. For more information about bicycle maintenance please visit Prairie Path Cycles in Winfield, Illinois or visit our website at www.prairiepathcycles.com. In this clip I’m going to be showing you how to adjust your front derailleur. And there is going to be two different processes, we are going to kind of follow along here. Whether your chain won’t shift up or if it is having trouble shifting down. Now the first thing if it’s having trouble shifting up into the larger chain rings, what you are going to want to do is put more tension on to the cable and like the brakes the derailleurs have barrel adjusters up front so if it is not shifting up to the bigger cassettes what you are going to want to do is turn left or counterclockwise, which will put more tension on to the cable and help it shift up properly. And the same thing that goes with the brakes also goes with the derailleurs. So if the barrel adjuster isn’t adjusting enough you can go down find where the front derailleur is and there is the bolt that that actually attaches the cable on to the derailleur which you can use to tighten up and then once you go from there use your barrel adjuster up front to do the fine tuning adjustments.
