When it is broken out it is called arpeggio. This is how we should practice it on the flute I would play the arpeggio. The E major chord starting from the 1st note of the scale. If we start from the 2nd measure note of the major scale F sharp we can outline a minor chord. A minor chord has a minor 3rd 3 half steps in the bottom and then a major 3rd 4 half steps on the top. In this case we have F sharp minor which has F sharp A looking at the piano let's see the half steps F sharp 1,2,3, to A. This is the 2nd and 4th notes of the E major scale and then from A to C sharp 1,2,3,4 is a major 3rd. This is the minor chord using the 2nd, 4th and 6th note from the major scale. Let's play the arpeggio on the flute. That is the F sharp minor chord.
