We have now learned the notes in E major scale and getting more familiar with the E major scale. There are chords or groups of notes from the scale that are put together which help you identify the sound of the major scale. A chord is a group of 3 or more notes that are put together using different combinations of the notes from the scale. We are going to look at 2 types of chords the first chord is a major chord. A major chord is started from the first note of the set major scale. We have started on E major it uses the 1st, 3rd and 5th note of the scale. What makes it a major chord is the distance or however many half steps are between the different notes in the chord. A major chord has a major 3rd on the bottom 4 half steps and a minor 3rd on the top. So we have major 3rd which looking at the piano uses the 1st note E going to the 3rd note of the scale E sharp. Now a major 3rd have 4 half steps 1,2,3,4. To make a finish chord from the 5th note of the E major scale 3rd note to the E major scale to the 5th note of the E major scale we have 3 half steps 1,2,3. That is a minor triad. This is a major chord.
