The 2nd note in the E major scale is F sharp. Let's look at F sharp in the staff. We have F sharp as the 2nd note it is sharp because of the key signature. We also can show F sharp here. On the flute F sharp is played with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and thumb key of the left hand. The 4th and pinkie of the right hand this is how it sounds. Let's review the fingerings on the flute we have the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th key and thumb key of the left hand and the 4th finger and pinkie in the right hand. Starting from our scale we have E which was the 1st note. Move up a whole step to F sharp notice that a whole step is from E to F sharp. There is the sharp in there which raises that so it adds a half step. If it was to E to F natural that would just be a half step so to get the whole step for the pattern you go from E up to F sharp. Let's listen to the scale from the beginning. F sharp is the 2nd note.
