A whole step to F sharp the 5th note. A whole step to G sharp the 6th note and whole step to A sharp the 7th note. Here is B flat major written up to B again and back down. We can see that the key signature of B major has 5 sharps. Sharps are alterations to the pitches, they make this note higher pitch by one half step. This is so starting on B you can have a major scale. You have to raise the notes and put sharps so that it can make the interval needed such as a whole step or a half step. This fits the major scale pattern. In the key of B major we have F sharp, C sharp, G sharp, D sharp and A sharp. Let's take a listen at B major. The B major scale.
