RYAN LARSON: So today we're going to learn our three basic chords bossa nova style on the guitar and we'll show you the tab as well, don't worry. We have our major, our minor and our seventh chords and what we're going to do is learn this on every string position for the bottom three strings and then the last one. So by learning these nine chords off of the three on the E, three on the A and three on D string, we can go through and learn our D major scale which takes up those three strings. And we can go through and use this scale to analyze the tune and find all the different routes to all these different chords and then once we find the root, we can apply the appropriate chord, whether it be major, minor or seventh chord. So by using this system which we're going to go through in this entire lesson plan, you can go through any real book tune and analyze it and find how to find those chords. And once you've find the root, you can go and apply the appropriate chord voicing. Again, we're going to go through everything in tab so you can write it down at home and just go back as a quick reference to go through and have a lot of fun playing bossa nova in D major.
