How to Hit a Punch Serve in Ping Pong

SCOTT BROWDER: We talked about the being able to keep people guessing with your serve. And there's a neat little serve that I use that works but you can't use it all the time, you gotta be able to use it very sparingly or if you--unless you're hitting it really low and hitting some decent pace on it, you'll probably going to start getting drilled by your opponent after a while once he starts catching on. And basically all it is, is you know it's a backhand serve, what you want to do is you're just going to in tight instead of getting your arm out and trying to hit something outside, you're going to start from almost like your bellybutton and come push towards the net with the backhand flat and just push, and just go low to high kind of a sweeping motion towards the net right from your gut. It's just a punch serve and it's pretty effective especially when you're trying to position the ball to different parts of the table. So we're going to go ahead and give that a try it's just again it's just a little punch serve, you're tossing it out in front of the paddle, starting from your bellybutton like I said and just moving your body towards the net and finishing just a little higher not to be over exaggerated with a bunch of top spin just what you want to do we just punch it, so we'll go ahead and give that a try. And again that's a little high we gotta start them low. And don't be afraid to move it around and what you're--again you're hoping for is the element of surprise, when the guy is waiting for a hard forehand or backhand serve and then you just kinda pop one over on him, he's going to be guessing and hopefully you get the point.
