Mobile Surveillance: Following the Subject

Hello, my name's Frank Torres and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. This segment is about following your subject while performing mobile surveillance. Make no mistake, following your subject through traffic is the most dangerous part of your job and it requires incredible care for both yourself and the other drivers on the road. What you'll want to make sure when youre following your subject is that you don't get too close. Especially in environments where there aren't a lot of traffic or a lot of other distractions. Naturally if you're in a area with a lot of traffic you'll be allowed to stay closer to them because there'll be more cars to distract them. Now some things to make sure when your following, make sure of when your following your subject is, make sure you don't get too far behind them during traffic lights. If that light turns red after your subject crosses and your still behind it, there's a very good chance youre going to lose your subject. Next is, when your subject decides to park. Make sure you don't park right behind them or in the next parking spot over make sure you just keep on driving. Get a good look of where they're going, find a position and start shooting video from there. You'll want to catch them, you'll want to get footage of them leaving the vehicle in case they're injured and they're bending over in an awkward fashion or things along those lines. And the same will apply when they're leaving their location and going to another one. So the important points are, don't get too close or too far depending on your area. Be aware of all the traffic signals and traffic signs in the area. And last but certainly not least stay safe.
