Laying Out the Legs for a Computer Desk

Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Villag. In this video clip, we'll be laying out the legs. Going back to our drawing, we want the height of our desk to be forty inches, we know that our top is going to be three layers thick. So we need to subtract those three layers from forty inches. In addition, the width of each leg is going to be four inches square, so each side is going to be four inches. So the heighth of each of our legs is going to be thirty-seven and three quarters. If we take a look at the top view of our legs, we are going to have plywood on the inside pieces and then oak on the outside pieces. So that it covers that plywood edge and then it will look like its just one big solid oak post. However, the inside is going to be hollow so that we can run our wires through it. Also our overall measurements are going to be four inches by four inches so my oak piece is going to have to be a full four inches. But, my plywood pieces I'm going to have to subtract the three quarter inch thickness of both oak pieces. So the pieces that I'm going to need to build my legs are four inches wide by thirty-seven and three quarter inches long by three quarter inches thick, that is going to be made of our oak board, I'm going to need eight of those. For my plywood pieces it's going to have to be two and a half inches wide by the same length, the same thickness and then its going to be plywood, I'm going to need eight of those also.
