How to play an Altered G Chord on Guitar

Hi, my name is Joe Wiles with the Rock 'n Roll Conservatory. On behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to teach you how to play a G major chord without the use of your index finger. The first step is we're going to use a middle finger and put it on the second fret of the A string. The next step is to use our ring finger and put it on the third fret of the low E string. Then we're going to take our pinky and put it on the third fret of the high E string. This is playing the G chord without our index finger, it sounds like this. And again, the reason we fray up our index finger is so that we can use this not only as a G chord but as a G chord form, like a cookie cutter pattern we can move up and down. It looks like this, one, two, barre this second fret, and play the same chord form. And now we're using a G chord form although we're not playing a G chord. Again, we'll talk about it later. In the next segment, we're going to learn how to play an E chord without the use of your index finger. I'll see you there.
