How to Adjust Bridge Saddle on a Bass Guitar

THE FERRET: All right. Now that we've got the neck adjusted, we're going to sight it one more time and see that it looks good. It's good to have just a little relief in the neck of a bass because typically, you're playing a little bit harder. And the strings, because they're thicker, have a less tension on them, so you need a little more room for the string to move. Now that we've made the neck straight, the saddles are going to need to come up to compensate. And we do that by turning the two screws that are in each saddle to make the bridge pieces come up. All right, so we're raising the bridge saddles and when you do that, sometimes you have to ease off on the tuning of the string because as you raise the saddle, the pitch is going to go higher. Once you get one string set, it's a good guide for the other strings. And this low E string is set just about where it needs to be, maybe just one more little turn, and then, we can pretty much move the other strings up to where it is, maybe, going just a little bit higher in the middle of the neck because the neck's got a natural curve to it, and we want to match that curve with the bridge saddles here.
