How to Set the Intonation on a Les Paul Guitar

THE FERRET: All right. Now that we've got the neck adjusted, the string height set perfect, we're going to move on to intonation. The way that we do that is we want the open note of any given string to match the 12th fret, and the best way to do that is with a strobe tuner or an electronic tuner. And we're going to check that by playing the open note until it's in tune, and then we're going to play the 12th fret. If your tuner says that you're sharp, that means that you need to move the saddle back away from the neck. If the tuner says your string is flat, that means you need to move the saddle back towards the neck. In this case, the tuner is telling me that the string is a little bit sharp, so I need to move this saddle a little bit further back. We'll use a flat-head screwdriver, and we turn the set screw right here to move the saddle. And sometimes, it takes a very small adjustment. I'm checking the open note against the 12th fret. Now, the tuner shows that both notes are in tune. We can move on to the next string and repeat the process.
