Using the Timeline in iMovie

Hey everybody. My name is Matt and I am speaking to you here on behalf of Expert Village. Right after you import your video clips into iMovie. You?re going to want to drag them down to the time lines so that you can edit them. There?s two different views that you can use to arrange your clips. If you go down here to the bottom left you can see how we are on time line view right now. I?m going to switch over to the clip viewer. And what you can do is you can just drag and drop your clips down here at the bottom. And you can drag these both ways. So you can take them out of the time line and put them over here back in the thumbnails. And from here you can click and drag them and arrange them anyway you want. As you can see it will show you the length of the clips in time line view. This is where we?re going to be doing most of our editing. The clip viewer is going to give you just a general overview of the pacing of your movie. And in time line view you can scrub your play head and see your movie play. And also, so if you hit the play button you will see it just plays your clips in order there. And also down here at the bottom left you?ve got your zoom here. Where you can zoom in and view more finer details of your clips.
