Reading Sharps & Flats in Piano Sheet Music
Hello! I am Annie Brunson on behalf of Expert Village. Today we’re going to learn the name of the black notes, sharps, and flats. We are going to learn them on the piano keyboard and how they’re written on the staff. In lesson 1, we learned the names of the white notes. C, D, E, F,G, A, E and C. What are the names of the black notes? The black notes have 2 names, depending on how you look at them. The first black note after C, can either be raised from C and it can be C sharp or it can be lowered from D and it can be D flat. So the first black note after the middle C is either C sharp or D flat. The next black note can either be raised; can be either D sharp or E flat. The next note can either be F sharp or G flat. The next black note is G sharp or A flat. The last black note is A sharp or B flat.
