RYAN LARSON: So now that we have our vi minor down, we can do what jazz cats call a 1-6-2-5, where you go from I Major to vi minor, ii minor, 5, 7. And what I'm doing is called side stepping so we have the notes we're aiming for and I use notes next to them to lead in to it: 1 into 6 into 2 into 5 into 1. So you can do that or you can approach it from the scale. So basically as long as you hit 1-6 and 2 and 5 on the downbeat, how you get to those notes is entirely up to you. You can use chromatic notes; you can use notes in the scale. As long as you get there, it will sound good. And that's your 1-6-2-5 in G flat major on the bass.
