RYAN LARSON: So now we've gone through and learned our F major scale on the bass. So now, we're going to go see how it's written out. So we have our bass clef staff here and we have our 1 flat. There's our B flat for the key of F. You're going to know you're on F when you see that B flat in your reading, and F is found right below the bottom line of the bass clef staff. And each line and space is a different note in the scale so we number that below here: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7. So basically, when you're reading bass clef, you're really reading inside this pattern. So if you have the pattern down, you can just float through: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7. You can even skip around 5 to 4 then 3 to 6, 7 then go in to 1. And you see I also wrote the tab above so this is your lowest string: 1-3-0-1-3-0-2. So that's the actual frettings for the scale. So go through and really analyze that scale and maybe go online and check out some sheet music and see if you can read through an F on the bass.
