Reading & Playing F Major Intervals Sketched Vertical on Bass

RYAN LARSON: Now, we're going to take another look at F major. So we start right here and we have the same thing written out that we had in tab. So here's our open string and here are our frets, 1st fret, 2nd fret, 3rd fret, 4th fret. And notice we still keep all the four frets out there, same pattern except now we put the scale intervals in there. So you'll have 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 then you have 2, 3 and the 4 at the top. So if you go through and walk again and count while you're doing it: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1-2-3-4-3-2-1-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-7-1. So you have this open string also but that just is really used as a leading tone into the 1. And then again, your most important note values are your 1, your 5 and your 1. If you want to do some basic Latin and you can just from 1, and the 5th is always at the same interval. See how we go up two frets and up a string. Or if the root is above it, it's just the fret right below the root; and if it's below it, so 1-5-5-1-5-1-5-5-1-5-5-1. So that's a very important pattern to get under your fingers, the 5th. Very easy and a nice simple look at the F major scale on the bass.
