Melt Butter for Mashed Potatoes

Hey guys! My name is J and I'm talking to you on behalf of Expert Village. On this clip, I'm going to show you how to basically melt the butter for your mashed potatoes. When they're ready to get mashed you can add this nice liquid mixture of butter. What we're going to do is cut about 2 1/2 tablespoons. You want to cut that into thirds, as you can see I did real quick. 3 little pieces. I'm going to add these 3 little pieces to this little measuring cup. Also, what I'm going to add is some pepper. I've got some fresh ground black pepper. I added pepper inside there, as you can see. I'm going to stick this in my microwave for about 30 seconds. Let it get nice and melted, so that way it's nice and ready for mashed potatoes whenever I'm done cooking them. The reason why you want to do this is that butter gets nice and hot and it basically gets infused with this nice pepper taste. It expands the pepper flavor even more. The butter and pepper just go together so well. When we add this to our mashed potatoes, we're going to get a nice good flavor. Actually, I'm going to add a bunch more pepper. I forgot I'm cooking so many potatoes. When you're cooking a lot of potatoes you want to add a lot of salt and a lot of pepper. A lot of nice flavors that way the potato gets nice and flavored. People don't realize these potatoes are so big and they can take on a lot of seasoning. That's why I'm going the sour cream and cream cheese because they can take on all these flavors because they're so starchy and they're so bland in flavor from the get go. You want to add as much flavoring as possible when you're going to mix the actual mix. What I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and mix this butter inside the microwave and let it get nice and melted. Thanks for listening.
