So, I also have some examples here of fruits that are really important to buy organic. Why? Because there are definitely some fruits and vegetables out there that are more heavily sprayed with pesticides than others. Okay. Which ones? That's great to know. For instance, berries are really heavily sprayed. Really heavily sprayed. For instance, I generally try to stay away from conventional berries because they just have way too many pesticides. Grapes are another example. Imported grapes are really, can really be high in pesticide residues. Another little tip, you can't just wash pesticides off. No. It's systemic in the fruit and vegetable. Yes. And, so, you can actually find the pesticides on the inside of the fruit and vegetables. And, studies have been done on this. Because what happens is that the pesticides and the chemicals that are in the soil become a part of the fruit and vegetable. Another one that's really important to buy organic is bell peppers. Bell peppers are really heavily sprayed. Another tip, sometimes organic bell peppers can be expensive in the grocery store. If you have a farmer's market, go to your farmer's market. Farmer's markets can be great. I love farmer's market. Yes. And you can buy affordable organic produce there. And, here's another little tip, it doesn't always have to be certified organic. That's true. If it's locally grown. Yes. And, when it's locally grown, you get a higher nutritional value too. Because, remember, as soon as you pick a fruit from a tree it goes through the dying process. Yes. And if it takes a week to get to your kitchen table, it's been going through a week of dying. Yes. If you grow it in the back yard, and you just pick your orange, it's more alive. It's more whole. More nutritious. Yeah, and a good thing to ask your local farmer if they are not certified organic, or your produce manager, is how this vegetable or this piece of fruit was grown. Ask them, was it grown organically? Was it grown with any pesticides, herbicides, fumigants, anything that is going to be chemical? And a simple, they'll tell you yes or no. And, so that's a great way to buy produce that's been grown organically that isn't necessarily organic. And also, we can try and grow things in our own backyard even in container, container pots, as often as possible. Oh, you're so right. So, berries, I just want to share some information on the berries, they're very nutritious food. And, in the summertime months when you're exposed to a lot of sunshine, a good thing to do is eat lots of berries and lots of carrots everyday in your diet because it will protect you from the damage that the sun can cause on your skin. And, it's not to say that you don't need to use sunscreen, but part of the problem is that we don't have the right nutrients to combat the UV rays. So, if you eat berries, studies have shown that they're high in antioxidants, and if you eat berries and carrots every day... Everyone knows that carrots are good for our eyes, also good for the skin. So, eat berries and carrots every day in the summertime months when you're going to go out into the sun and it will help your body defend itself. Oh, that is such a great tip. I didn't know that. I'm going to start eating more berries. I love them anyway. Other fruits and vegetables that are really important to buy organic are nectarines, peaches, anything, if you think of anything that's kind of sweet that has a thin skin, it's kind of, you know, attracts a lot of bugs and things. Right, as opposed to oranges that we can buy non-organic. Right, bananas that have a thick peel. That's a great thing to look for. Avocados, those can get really expensive. If you can't find them organic, the conventional is okay. Avocado is such a good fat though, one of the good fats. Oh, it is. I love... It's amazing to use instead of butter. It's so healthy for you. Oh, that's a wonderful tip, wonderful tip. Other things that you really want to buy organic are like lettuce, spinach, and celery just because they are heavily sprayed. And then, this way you also save on the green earth on the plastics. You can just buy in bulk. Yes.
