Hi it's Elise McMahon for ExpertVillage.com and in this video series we're talking about teaching a reliable recall. If you'd like to find out more about my services you can visit my website at CaninHeadstart.com. So in this clip we're going to be talking about another game you can play with your dog and this would be a relay race, playing recall. Typically we would do this with more than one dog but for the purposes of filming we're going to just do it with one dog. What we do is we have the owners and their dogs lined up on one side of the room. You have one person hold each dog as its turn comes up. The owner goes across the room and calls the dog. When the dog comes they do fine dining, about ten seconds worth, then the handler would come to the next one and call the next dog and would move all the way down the line until you get all the dogs on that side and the person would come over and hold the dog while the owner comes down here. We're going to one example of this with one dog, and you can imagine how it would be a game if you did it with more dogs. I'm going to hold Teddy and Sue is going to go down to the end of the room. When she calls her dog and he comes she's going to do ten seconds of fine dining and we'll keep an eye on the clock, when she's done that fine dining, I'm going to go down to the other end and get Teddy and then Sue will come back down here and call him. The second time she calls him, I'm going to be distracting him a little bit. You will be using your e-call, that's your NOW word. Again, do fine dining for ten seconds. Then we're going to take Teddy again. Sue will go the other end of the room. This time I will be distracting him slightly by talking to him and petting him. Sue is going to use the emergency recall, and you can see Teddy is pretty anxious to get to her. Teddy came right to Sue and she's going to fine dine him. If you have a number of dogs you're playing with you can imagine that it just goes on right down the line, quite exciting fun and high energy game for the dogs.
