Cutting a 45 Degree Angle for A Wrought Iron Fence

On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Terry, and I'm here to tell you today about building a wrought iron fence. Right now I'm going to make a forty-five degree cut on this piece of metal to show you one of the examples of way of cutting. The reason why I'm cutting a forty-five degree is to show the difficulty. I'm going to clamp it down. You can join, you can join your metal together like this, and stack it, but with tubing, you still have an open end and it doesn't look real nice. So what I do is I cut a forty-five degree angle so that they come out like that. Let's see, right there. Now we have a nice joint, we can fill that in with weld. And just make some much smoother changes. There's no holes on the end of here where if you'd leave it like that you would have a hole to fill and cap. You always want to keep it completely sealed. Water gets in there, and if you have a winter climate in the winter, ice forms in there and freezes, and it will actually split your metal. So that's why I do that.
