RYAN LARSON: Now we're going to take a look at the scale as it looks written out in tab and we start right here. Here's our four strings, right? Top string, 2nd string, 3rd string, 4th string. We start right here in the bottom string, 2nd fret and we went 2-4-6-2-4-6-3-4-6-3-4-6. Remember that's where the crunch was and I put a square around our root. I put a square around our root or the first note of the scale and we go, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1-2-3-4-5. So that's how you find your scale and we'll go over the alphabetical names in the next one or the next segment. But right now you want to make sure you really write this down at home, write out the tab and really go through and understand it and get that scale under your fingers and this is--again, it's just a major scale pattern starting on low string--and you could start on G flat, you could start on B flat--you could start it here on D. So even though it's up the string, you can still utilize the same pattern. You just gotta make sure you figure out what the notes on the string below is. So that's your G flat major scale.
