Alphabetical Names for the Bass Guitar in G

RYAN LARSON: Now, we're going to take a look at the alphabetical names at the scale and we start right here on G, right, G major scale. We got G, A, B, C, D, E, F sharp. Now, you have to write this scale down at home or otherwise, this whole lesson is useless and you won't be able to get anything out of it. So, really make sure you write this down. It's your G major scale, G, A, B, C, D, E, F sharp, and you want to number it 1 through 7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, G major scale. And now that we have this scale, what we can do is when we go through and analyze tunes, we can say, "Alright, we have a C chord." So, we go 1, 2, 3, 4. "Alright, I play the root on the 4th degree of the scale." Now you know where C is. Or if you have an A flat chord, you can go; "Okay. I know A is a 2nd degree of the scale so that's just 5th of here on the bottom string." But it's a flatted note so I have to lower the fret. So, you can find all these different root notes that we're going to be experiencing as we go through these different tunes, and you can utilize it to find where to go and how to position your hands to get to these different root voicings.
